International Expert in Knee Health, Sports Knee Injuries and Knee Surgery

Dr Chinmay Gupté is an internationally recognised knee specialist, Consultant Orthopaedic Knee Surgeon, Associate Professor at Imperial College London and President-Elect of the British Knee Society.

He is widely respected for his expertise in complex knee conditions, sports knee injuries, knee biomechanics and advanced knee surgery. His career brings together academic excellence, elite sporting insight and more than two decades of specialist clinical experience.

Dr Gupté graduated from Oxford University, where he earned five Cricket Blues and played professional cricket before pursuing a career in orthopaedic surgery. This rare combination of medical expertise and high-level sporting experience gives him a deep understanding of how knee injuries affect not only the joint itself, but also confidence, performance, mobility and quality of life.

He later became the first surgeon to be awarded a PhD in knee biomechanics by Imperial College London, where he continues to hold an academic role. His research, teaching and clinical work have helped shape understanding of knee ligament function, meniscal injury, surgical training and patient safety.

In 2025, his contribution to knee surgery and surgical education was recognised when he was recognised as Surgeon of the Year at the Houses of Parliament.
